Manchester United pulled off a dramatic 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, their second consecutive Premier League win under manager Ruben Amorim for the first time since he took over last year. The win was also United’s first at Liverpool’s home ground since 2016.

Despite the historic victory, Amorim made a complaint about his players, saying that they lost their composure in the second half as Liverpool gained control by producing an equaliser. Cody Gakpo helped his side level the scores in the dying minutes of the game before Harry Maguire came up with a sensational header to regain the lead for United.

Amorim says team will now focus on next game

Bryan Mbeumo had given United the early lead after just 61 seconds into the game, and with Maguire’s late header, they managed to take all three points. However, Amorim has said that the celebration would be short-lived, with a tough game against Brighton coming up.

“I think that was the biggest win in my time at Manchester United, it means a lot today but tomorrow it won’t mean a lot, it’s three points and it’s a good victory. We fought for every ball, we lost our composure in the second half but the spirit was there and that is the most important thing, if you have the spirit you can win any game. It was a good day and now I am concerned about Brighton,” Amorim told Sky Sports after the match.

When asked how United managed the upset, Amorim said, “We just saw the game and knew how important our set pieces are and the guys that have more experiences are on in the beginning. Every time we play in this environment well if you block well in the beginning you can feel the defence turning and we feel that in our stadium and all the big teams feel that. A good win.”

“It will give us more confidence through the week and pleasure to our fans, they deserve it and that is in our hands. This is in the past, now it’s time to look at the future,” he added. The win helped Manchester United break into the top 10 of the Premier League standings, while Liverpool dropped to fourth spot.
