Manchester United set to extend Harry Amass' loan stay at Sheffield Wednesday: Report
Harry Amass went from United to Wednesday on a four-month loan in September. Reuters

Harry Amass is set to extend his stay at Sheffield Wednesday beyond the January transfer window as key Manchester United figures remain satisfied with the teenager’s progress at the Championship club.

United sent Amass to Wednesday on loan in September and the defender has done well at Hillsborough with 10 full-game appearances. His performance has reportedly led to United opting to extend the deal which was originally for four months.

Apart from being solid in Wednesday’s defence, the 18-year-old also opened his goal account in senior football with a strike against Southampton in his side’s most recent outing.

After spending his early years with Watford, Amass had been signed by Manchester United in August 2023 and the club now believes that he has significantly developed his game at the senior level during his loan spell for the Yorkshire club.

Pedersen showers praise on Amass

Owls boss Henrik Pedersen too thinks that the teenager has improved his game drastically since joining Wednesday.

“The young man who came into Sheffield Wednesday and the young man who just left the stadium today are two different humans. And they are two different players,” Pedersen said of Amass.

“His progression has been amazing and, for a young player like Harry, he came with a lot of energy, but then the Championship always come knocking with three games in a row.

“It is tough, but he keeps on playing. This week, against West Brom, against Norwich, against Southampton, he showed against three good teams that he can compete with them.

“It’s not only that he can compete but he can be dominant in some phases. So I think he has done a big development as a player.

“What I see is a young man who has started to have a big knowledge about himself as a human, who he wants to be, who he doesn’t want to be.

“I like him. He is a good boy, he is a good player and he loves to learn. We love to have him here.”
