Ballon d’Or 2025 Highlights: Dembele, Bonmati win Ballon d'Or; PSG named Men's Club of the Year

Bonmati and Dembele were the favourites for the women’s and men’s awards respectively, and were all smiles towards the end of the evening.

The Parisians are known for their over-the-top celebrations, which was witnessed by the entire world after their 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan in the Champions League final on 1 June!

Here are PSG fans bringing out the flares as the celebrate their club dominating the award ceremony this year!

Not only does the 28-year-old French forward win the Ballon d’Or, he’s also part of the team that is named the ‘Club of the Year’, having won the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League, Super Cup, Ligue 1, French Cup and Trophée des Champions recently.

What an incredible run for PSG and for Dembele!

And let’s not forget Barcelona either for being well-represented at the awards, with the club sweeping the Kopa Trophy and Aitana Bonmati winning the Ballon d’Or Feminin for the third consecutive time!

It hardly comes as a surprise, given his sensational performance that helped PSG win the UEFA Champions League and finish runners-up at the FIFA Club World Cup!

“We are more than footballers, no, we are living by example. For the new generations coming, they can dream about being footballers, this is the best [thing] we are achieving, I think,” Bonmati says after receiving the award.

The Barcelona star continues to reign supreme when it comes to the top award! Spain teammate Mariona Caldentey finishes runner-up while fellow Barcelona star Alexia Putellas, a two-time former winner, narrowly misses out on a top-three finish!

This is the fifth consecutive year that a Barcelona player has won this award!

Bonmati also becomes only the third player ever after fellow Barca legend Lionel Messi and French icon Michel Platini to win a hat-trick of titles.

The trio of Lucy Bronze, Chloe Kelly and Hannah Hampton, who had starred in England’s Euro triumph, miss out on the award. Bonmati, meanwhile, could complete a hat-trick this year!

Presenting the Ballon d’Or Feminin is legendary Spanish and Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta!

The winner will be announced on the other side of a break. Here are the nominees:

And presenting the award are PSG legend Javier Pastore and eminent French musician DJ Snake. While the Gunners had missed out on the league title to London rivals Chelsea, they ended the 2024-25 season on a high by defeating Barcelona 1-0 in the final.

“I’m proud to stand here representing a club who has pioneered women’s football for 38 years,” says manager Renee Slegers.

Portuguese football legend Luis Figo presents the award to Pajor (Poland, Barcelona) and Gyökeres (Sweden, Arsenal).

“This trophy belongs to our team, every day playing with you makes me a better player and it’s a privilege to be part of this amazing club,” says Pajor.

Gyökeres, meanwhile, thanks his former club Sporting CP for “incredible memories created together” and looking forward to starting “a new stage in my career at Arsenal”.

Jota had helped Liverpool win their 20th English top-flight title and starred in Portugal’s victory over Spain in the UEFA Nations League earlier this year. His life, however, was tragically cut short at just 28 years of age due to a car accident in Spain, which also claimed the life of his 25-year-old brother Andre Silva.

Tributes are also paid to Manchester United legend Denis Law, who had passed away at the age of 84 in January.

Chelsea star Hampton beats Ann-Katrin Berger (Germany, Gotham FC), Cata Coll (Spain, Barcelona), Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria, Paris FC/Brighton) and Daphne van Domselaar (Netherlands, Arsenal) after starring in England’s second consecutive Euro triumph.

Italian keeper Donnarumma, meanwhile, wins the award ahead of Alisson Becker (Brazil, Liverpol), Yassine Bounou (Morocco, Al Hilal), Lucas Chevalier (France, Lille), Thibaut Courtois (Belgium, Real Madrid), Emiliano Martínez (Argentina, Aston Villa), Jan Oblak (Slovenia, Atlético de Madrid), David Raya (Spain, Arsenal), Matz Sels (Belgium, Nottingham Forest), Yann Sommer (Switzerland, Inter) after helping PSG land the Champions League title!

“It is nice to win an individual trophy, for you and your family, but I think the most improtant thing is the recognition of the fans and of everyone who loves football,” says Enrique, who masterminded PSG’s maiden Champions League triumph earlier this year.

Enrique beats Antonio Conte (Napoli), Hansi Flick (Barcelona), Enzo Maresca (Chelsea), and Arne Slot (Liverpool) to the award after helping Paris Saint-Germain win annihilate Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League final to win the top continental competition for the first time!

Enrique and the rest of the PSG squad, however, are not present at the venue as they are in Marseille for a Ligue 1 fixture. The Spaniard though expresses his gratitude through a pre-recorded message.

“What an honour, after a very special summer with the even more insane tournament we had at the Euros. I would like to thank the players, the staff, the FA and my family, for the hard work, the trust and the unconditional sipport. Without you I would not be standing here,” says the England manager.

“I see it as recognition of the women’s game. We have to try to keep our identity, being authentic, inclusive, a place where everyone belongs, and I hope we keep fighting together against misogny and against racism. Football should always, sport should always unite and never divide,” she adds.

The viral claim of Luis Enrique’s side, whose talismanic French forward Ousmane Dembele is among the leading contenders for the men’s award, boycotting this year’s awards ceremony simply isn’t true.
