We are just hours away from the Ballon d’Or 2025 ceremony, which will take place on 22 September (23 September in India) at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. The Ballon d’Or is the football world’s most prestigious individual award and Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele is considered the favourite this year.

Ousmane Dembele, however, will face stiff competition for the Ballon d’Or award from teammate Gianluigi Donnarumma, Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, Barcelona’s Lamine Yama and Raphinha and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah. In the women’s section, Aitana Bonmatí of Barcelona would look to defend her crowd.

The men’s Ballon d’Or in 2024 was won by Manchester City’s Rodri, which also saw Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr boycott the event in protest.

The Ballon d’Or 2025 award ceremony will start at 12.30 am IST on 23 September (Tuesday) in India. In Europe, it will start at 9.30 Central European Time (CET) on 22 September (Monday).

How does Ballon d’Or 2025 voting work?

The winners of the men’s and women’s Ballon d’Or awards are picked by a group of journalists on three factors: individual performances, team achievements and career. A panel of 100 sports journalists will vote for the men’s Ballon d’Or 2025 winners, while 50 mediapersons will pick the women’s Ballon d’Or 2025 winner.

Each journalist will be required to pick their top 10 picks, which will be given a specific number of points as per their positions. These points will be tallied at the end and the players with the maximum points will be declared as the Ballon d’Or winners.
