Federer vs Nadal: The rivalry in numbers

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will square off for the 33rd time in the Australian Open semi-finals on Friday.

Nadal leads their Head2Head series 22-10 and holds an 8-6 edge on hard courts after winning their three encounters on the surface in 2013.

It will be the pair’s third meeting at Melbourne Park, with Nadal winning both their previous clashes. He denied Federer in five sets in the 2009 final and also triumphed three years later when they met in the semi-finals.

Roger Federer believes Stefan Edberg can help him end a seven-year losing Grand Slam run against Rafael Nadal. The score in the 2007 Wimbledon final was 7-6(7), 4-6, 7-6(3), 2-6, 6-2.

The last time Nadal was beaten by Federer was in 2012 at the BNP Paribas Open semi-finals. Federer beat Nadal 6-3, 6-4.

If one looks at the last 10 meetings between the two, Nadal has a clear 8-2 advantage. But this is a new Federer – with a new racket and a new coach.

Nadal has taken part in two tournaments this year and has won them both. He is on a 10 match winning streak.
