BCCI initiate tender process for new sponsor for Indian cricket team after Australia Test series

BCCI initiated the Invitation to Tender process for the five-year sponsorship for the Indian cricket team. The deal with Star India will expire at the end of the Australia Test series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday initiated the Invitation to Tender (ITT) process for the five-year sponsorship for the Indian cricket team. Star India who are the current sponsors of the team will see their deal expire at the end of the Australia Test series.

The board, now under new leadership, is open to bids for Team India’s new sponsors till 2022.

“Under this Invitation to Tender (ITT), the winning bidder will be granted exclusive Team sponsorship rights (as set out in the sponsor agreement scheduled to this ITT), for all the matches/series (as set out in the sponsor agreement scheduled to this ITT) in which the national team (as set out in the sponsor agreement scheduled to this ITT) participates during the period from 1 April, 2017 till 31 March, 2022 (the “rights period”),” read an excerpt from a notice posted on BCCI’s website .

According to a report in  Sportsstarlive.com , Star India paid BCCI Rs 1.92 crore per match since signing the rights to be the team’s sponsor in 2013. Previously, Sahara who was the team’s sponsor for 13 years paid the board Rs 3.34 crore per match towards the end of their run as the team’s sponsor.

The winning bidder will start their stint as Team India’s sponsor from the ICC Champions Trophy in June later this year and the tenure will also cover the 2019 ICC World Cup, 2020 ICC World T20 and 2021 ICC Champions trophy.

The BCCI has been using the logo of it’s sponsor on the jerseys of it’s women and U-19 teams as well and will continue to do so for all national teams under it.

Currently the BCCI’s sponsors are: STAR Sports (broadcaster), Paytm (title sponsor), Nike (kit sponsor), Pepsi, Hyundai and Jana (official partners), while Vivo is the title sponsor of the board’s cash-rich venture, the Indian Premier League (IPL).
