)
Steven Smith is named the Man of the Match.
You can watch the live stream of the post-match analysis with cricket expert Ayaz Memon above…..
Three brilliant centuries in the match but in the end, Australia were too good for India. Rohit Sharma led the way for India with a brilliant 171 not out, he alongwith Kohli helped the visitors post 309/3. Debutant Barinder Sran provided the perfect start for India as he removed the openers inside first five overs. Bailey could have departed first ball but the umpire didn’t detect a faint glove on the caught behind. Smith and Bailey then got together and took the match away from India with a marathon 242-run stand. Australia stuttered a bit in the end but they made it past the finish line. Smith made 149, while Bailey scored 112. For India, debutant Barinder Sran was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets.
That’s it! Australia win by 5 wickets.
A few hiccups but Australia are past the finish line. After a wide, Faulkner takes a single to mid on to hit the winning run.
OUT! Smith departs for 149! Is there really a twist in the tale? SPD Smith c Kohli b Sran 149 (135b 11×4 2×6)
Full outside off, Smith drives it on the up straight to Kohli at short extra cover. He walks off to a standing ovation.
James Faulkner is the new batsman.
After 49 overs, Australia 308/4 (Smith 149, Marsh 12)
A good over from Umesh. Just four runs off it. Australia need 2 from the final over. Smith is on 149.
6 needed off 12 balls now.
After 48 overs, Australia 304/4 (Smith 148, Marsh 10)
Sensible stuff from Smith, dealing in singles. 300 comes up. Smith is on 148 now. 6 runs off the over.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar into the attack now.
12 needed off 18 now.
After 47 overs, Australia 298/4 (Smith 144, Marsh 8)
After a three singles off first four balls, Umesh drops one short, Marsh looks to pull but gets a top edge over mid-wicket for a single. Smith digs a yorker to the leg side for a single to end the over. 5 runs off the over.
Umesh Yadav into the attack now….
17 NEEDED OFF 24 NOW…….
'Would've been interesting to see on DRS, but we're not the team that doesn't want it' - Bailey on his first ball escape
— Daniel Brettig 🏏 (@danbrettig) January 12, 2016
After 46 overs, Australia 293/4 (Smith 141, Marsh 6)
A heart in the mouth moment for Smith in that over. He gets a leading edge which falls short of the bowler Ashwin. He then tucks one through square leg for a quick couple. Three singles more make it 6 runs off the over.
After 45 overs, Australia 287/4 (Smith 137, Marsh 4)
Australia may have lost a couple of quick wickets but Smith is playing at a different level. After four singles, Marsh cuts a short one through backward point for three and then Smith guides one through the same region for a boundary. A couple off th last ball makes it 13 runs off the over.
Sran continues…
After 44 overs, Australia 274/4 (Smith 129, Marsh 0)
Another good over from Ashwin. He’s bounced back well. Five runs and a wicket off it. 36 needed off 36.
OUT! Ashwin gets his man! Do India still have hope? GJ Maxwell c Dhawan b Ashwin 6 (6b 1×4 0x6)
Maxwell had hit him for four off the previous delivery. Maxwell this time looks to go big, charges down the track and looks to loft but doesn’t connect it well. Dhawan at long on pouches a brilliant catch.
Mitchell Marsh is the new batsman.
After 43 overs, Australia 269/3 (Smith 126, Maxwell 0)
A decent over from Sran. 5 runs off it. They need to remove Smith desperately.
After 42 overs, Australia 264/3 (Smith 126, Maxwell 0)
A successful over for India. Ashwin got Bailey. India had a slight chance of making a breakthrough in that over. Smith charged down the track, but Ashwin drifted it way down the leg side and Dhoni wasn’t able to collect. A tough chance but these need to be taken when nothing’s going your way. 3 runs and a wicket off the over. 46 needed off 48.
OUT! Ashwin finally gets the breakthrough. GJ Bailey c Kumar b Ashwin 112 (120b 7×4 2×6)
Brilliant catch from Bhuvneshwar. Bailey charges and looks to go downtown but doesn’t get enough power, Bhuvneshwar at long off moves to his right and pouches a brilliant catch.
Glenn Maxwell is the new batsman.
After 41 overs, Australia 261/2 (Smith 124, Bailey 112)
Smith is playing beautifully. He at first clobbers one straight back over Jadeja’s head for a six and then cuts one through point for a boundary. He then scoops one to fine leg for a single to end the over. 12 runs off the over. 49 needed off 54 now.
Sran back in the attack. Another expensive over as Smith just looks to get this done with in a hurry. 7 runs with 3 singles and a four – yet another slap past the bowler and the mid-on.
After 40 overs, Australia 249-2 (Smith 113, Bailey 111)
Sran back in the attack. Another expensive over as Smith just looks to get this done with in a hurry. 7 runs with 3 singles and a four – yet another slap past the bowler and the mid-on.
After 40 overs, Australia 249-2 (Smith 113, Bailey 111)
There’s the inevitable Steve Smith century against India. The man can just do no wrong against the Men in Blue. Gets his 100 of the first ball and then smacks two boundaries after that. A straight slog past mid-on and a similar shot that trickles down to fine leg.
After 39 overs, Australia 242-2 (Smith 109, Bailey 108)
Nine runs from that Bhuvneshwar Kumar over. A very well played pull by Smith pierces fine leg and square leg. That is followed by some ordinary fielding from India as Dhoni fails to collect and Kohli fails to back up. Poor cricket. Smith moves on 99.
After 38 overs, Australia 228-2 (Smith 99, Bailey 104)
A reminder….

Six runs from that over and it’s easy pickings for the two. Smith goes for a long heave of the last ball but completely misses it as it thuds on to his pads for a couple. He moves on to 91, 9 away from an entirely expected Smith ton against India.
Drinks break in Perth. After 37 overs, Australia 219-2 (Smith 91, Bailey 103)
Umesh Yadav continues, the required rate is close to 7.00 but seems like there is no pressure on these two
After 35 overs, Australia 213/2 (Smith 88, Bailey 101)
Bhuvneshwar bowls another tight over. Four runs off it. Baley got to his century in that over thanks to an overthrow which fetched him a couple. 97 needed off 14 overs now.
CENTURY! Bailey gets to his 3rd ODI ton off 106 balls. He’s made most of his lifelines so far. Six fours and two sixes in his innings so far.
Umesh Yadav back on…
After 34 overs, Australia 202/2 (Smith 85, Bailey 93)
A tight over from Bhuvneshwar. Just two runs off it.
Bhuvneshwar back on.
If we're not careful, Maxwell might not even score a century now. #AUSvIND

After 33 overs, Australia 200/2 (Smith 84, Bailey 92)
200 up for Australia. It’s all too easy for Smith and Bailey. 110 runs require off 17 overs. After four singles off the first four balls, Smith pulls a short delivery behind square leg for a boundary. A couple off the last ball makes it 9 runs off the over.
After 32 overs, Australia 191/2 (Smith 77, Bailey 90)
Ashwin hasn’t found his rhythm at all. He’s been too short and this time too he bowls one short and Smith, as he has done througout his innings so far, cracks it through cover for a boundary. 6 runs off the over. Australia need 119 from 18 overs.
After 31 overs, Australia 180/2 (Smith 72, Bailey 89)
Just the one bad delivery in the over where Jadeja bowled short and Bailey cut behind point for three. Five runs off the over.
Jadeja back…..
After 30 overs, Australia 180/2 (Smith 70, Bailey 86)
A boundary after three overs, Kohli drops one short and Bailey pulls it through mid-wicket for a boundary. Four more singles make it 8 runs off the over.
Kohli continues….
After 29 overs, Australia 168/2 (Smith 67, Bailey 78)
Not much happening for the Indian bowlers. Four runs off the over. Australia need 138 from 21 overs. India desperately need a wicket now.
After 28 overs, Australia 168/2 (Smith 67, Bailey 78)
Easy for the batsmen. Three singles and a couple. 5 runs off it. Dhoni needs someone to do something different.
Dhoni running out of options. He brings on Kohli into the attack..
After 27 overs, Australia 163/2 (Smith 66, Bailey 74)
Umesh too not getting any movement. Three singles and then Smith punches one off the back foot for a couple. 5 runs off it.
Umesh Yadav back on…
After 26 overs, Australia 158/2 (Smith 63, Bailey 72)
Ashwin not getting his lengths right, Bailey lofts an overpitched delivery straight back over his head for a six, Smith then hammers a short delivery through covers for a boundary. Smith then clobbers one straight back over his head for the second six in the over. 19 runs off the over.
After 25 overs, Australia 139/2 (Smith 52, Bailey 65)
Again good stuff, five singles and a couple off the over. 7 runs off it. All too easy.
FIFTY for Smith! He is just unstoppable against India. 50 off 55 balls with just two fours so far….
After 24 overs, Australia 132/2 (Smith 49, Bailey 62)
Bailey playig smart cricket. After three singles in four balls, Bailey reverse sweeps one through point for a four. 8 runs off the over.

They are milking the singles. 6 of them in that over.
Jadeja continues….
After 22 overs, Australia 118/2 (Smith 44, Bailey 53)
Ashwin too not getting much turn. Five singles off the over.
FIFTY for Bailey!
He’s got lifelines but this is a crucial innings. His 18th ODI FIFTY, Fifth in 8 ODI innings against India.
After 21 overs, Australia 107/2 (Smith 42, Bailey 50)
Too easy for the batsmen at the moment. Five singles and a wide off the over.
Jadeja continues….
After 20 overs, Australia 107/2 (Smith 40, Bailey 47)
The runs are flowing now. Dhoni needs to do something. After four runs off the first four balls, Bailey reverse sweeps one through covers for a boundary. 9 runs off the over. 25 runs scored off the last 3 overs.
After 19 overs, Australia 98/2 (Smith 39, Bailey 39)
This is good stuff from Bailey and Smith. Taking singles and hitting an odd boundary. 8 runs off the over with four singles and a boundary by Smith where he whipped one behind square leg.
After 18 overs, Australia 90/2 (Smith 33, Bailey 37)
Not a good start by Ashwin. He delivers the second delivery short and Smith cuts it through point for a boundary. Four more singles off the over.

‘Rohit only 838 runs short of Pranav Dhanawade’: Here’s how Twitter reacted to Sharma’s unbeaten 171. Check out…these are some of the most hilarious tweets above.
After 14 overs, Australia 70/2 (Smith 23, Bailey 29)
Jadeja comes into the attack – Stump to stump lines, Smith has to use his feet and chip one over mid-wicket for three. 5 runs off the over.
Ravindra Jadeja into the attack now.
After 13 overs, Australia 65/2 (Smith 19, Bailey 28)
Bailey gets another lifeline. Umesh bowls a good length delivery which jumps off the surface. Bailey looks to defend but it hits him smack on the gloves, he is in pain and starts off late, he is struggling and Jadeja misses his shy at the non-striker’s end. Had it hit, Bailey was a goner. Three singles off the over.
Umesh Yadav into the attack now.
After 12 overs, Australia 62/2 (Smith 17, Bailey 27)
Bailey is looking in good touch. After three singles off the first four balls, Bailey charges and lofts one straight back over his head for a six. A couple off the last ball makes it 11 runs for the over.
As he plays more I believe Brinder Sarn will start putting on pace. He might need to. But what a start!
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) January 12, 2016
Surprise…Rohit sharma into the attack now.
After 11 overs, Australia 51/2 (Smith 15, Bailey 18)

Sran continues….
After 8 overs, Australia 32/2 (Smith 12, Bailey 2)
Smith and Bailey both gets lifelines off a single delivery in that over. Smith pushes one down the ground, they set off for a risky single. Bailey was backing away too far so he came back in and then set off for a single so was late to start off. Kohli misses his shy at the non-striker’s end and it doesn’t hit the stumps at the striker’s end too. Both were well short of their crease at respective ends. Smith then pulls one through square leg for three.
After 7 overs, Australia 28/2 (Smith 9, Bailey 1)
Another tight over from Sran. Just one run off it. Sran got a hint of inswing.
Sran continues….

After 5 overs, Australia 21/2 (Smith 6, Bailey 0)
Sran might have had two wickets in that over but he was unlucky as Bailey was given not out on the caught behind appeal. Sran at first gets Warner and then Bailey, off the first ball, plays a half-heared pull but it kisses the glove on the way to the keeper as snicko shows but the umpire says no. One run and a wicket off the over.
OUT! Sran gets his 2nd and this is a big wicket! DA Warner c Kohli b Sran 5 (10b 1×4 0x6)
It’s full outside off, Warner looks to go downtown, doesn’t connect it well and helps it straight to Kohli at mid off. Sran gives Warner a good send off.

Bhuvneshwar continues….
After 3 overs, Australia 14/1 (Warner 4, Smith 1)
A very good over from Sran. He nearly had Finch off the first ball who chopped it inches wide of off stump to fine leg for a streaky boundary. Sran then had his man the next ball to scalp his maiden wicket. Warner then played one very late to guide it to fine leg for a boundary. 9 runs and a wicket off the over.
And maiden wicket... good reflex catch. Sran already fares better than the other two debutants today. #AusvInd
— Chetan Narula (@chetannarula) January 12, 2016

After 26 overs, India 123/1 (Rohit 70, Kohli 36)
Three singles off the Hazlewood over. Good tight lines from him.
Josh Hazlewood back into the attack. He was impressive in his first spell.
After 25 overs, India 120/1 (Rohit 68, Kohli 35)
Good stuff from both Rohit and Kohli. They employed sweep to unsettle Maxwell. 6 runs off the over.
Maxwell continues…
After 24 overs, India 114/1 (Rohit 65, Kohli 33)
Smart cricket from Rohit. After a couple of balls, out of nowhere, he heaves one over deep mid-wicket for a six and then dabs one to third man for a single. Kohli defends the last two deliveries cautiously. 7 runs off the over.
India's highest team total is 227 at Perth, which came against Sri Lanka in 2012, while chasing! #AUSvsIND #IndvsAus

After 23 overs, India 99/1 (Rohit 58, Kohli 33)
After all the good running so far, some signs of hesitation in that over as Rohit flicks one to mid-wicket, Kohli sets off but is sent back, he dives in as the throw misses the stumps. He seemed to have made it. Three singles off the over.
Glenn Maxwell into the attack now…
After 22 overs, India 99/1 (Rohit 56, Kohli 32)
The 100 is up for India. Kohli and Rohit have done a good steadying job. Kohli pulls one to deep mid-wicket for a couple. Kohli then pushes one to mid on for a quick single, Warner scores a direct hit and the ricochet allows them another couple. 5 runs off the over.
After 21 overs, India 99/1 (Rohit 55, Kohli 28)
Finally, India have a boundary but it’s a streaky one. Faulkner delivers a short bouncer, Rohit goes for a pul but gets a top edge over the keeper for a boundary. A couple of singles more make it six runs off the over. Faulkner used the short ball to good effect in that over.
Faulkner continues….
After 20 overs, India 93/1 (Rohit 50, Kohli 27)
Both Rohit and Kohli are dealing in singles and surprisingly, the duo have been pretty good with running between the wickets. Three singles off the over.
FIFTY for Rohit! He’s started off well. 50 off 63 balls with four 4s & a 6. Excellent inns so far. It’s his 28th ODI fifty.
After 19 overs, India 86/1 (Rohit 49, Kohli 25)
Rohit has moved on to 49. He pulls one to square leg and some good running brings them a couple. Two more singles make it 4 runs from the over.
Faulkner continues….
After 18 overs, India 86/1 (Rohit 46, Kohli 24)
Things have slowed down. Four singles off the Boland over. The 50-run stand comes up between Rohit & Kohli. India 86/1 after 18 overs.
Boland continues..
After 17 overs, India 82/1 (Rohit 44, Kohli 23)
A good tight over from Faulkner. Two runs off it. Time for some drinks….
Faulkner continues…..
After 16 overs, India 80/1 (Rohit 43, Kohli 22)
A decent over from Boland. He bowled a sharp short one to start off and Kohli somehow made sure he didn’t get a touch on it. Boland was good with his lengths off the next five balls. Just two runs off the over.
Boland continues…
After 15 overs, India 78/1 (Rohit 42, Kohli 21)
After 5 dot balls, Rohit thumps one straight back past Faulkner for four. Again, Faulkner was too full in that over. Rohit missed out on finding gaps on couple of occasions but finally did off the last ball. India 78/1 after 15 overs.
james Faulkner into the attack….
The pitch is looking very good for batting! India need a big total here... #AUSvIND

After 14 overs, India 74/1 (Rohit 38, Kohli 21)
Kohli is looking in good touch and he’s playing sublimely off his pads. He flicks a full delivery on middle and leg for a boundary through mid-wicket. Boland then shortens his length and concedes just a couple of runs off the next five balls. Australia need to bowl on a good length or just short of a good length because that’s what is stopping the run flow. 6 runs off the over.
After 13 overs, India 68/1 (Rohit 37, Kohli 17)
The Australian bowlers have been too full and the Indian batsmen haven’t missed out on punishing them. Kohli thumps one wide of mid off for a boundary. Marsh shortens his length from then on and concedes just one run off the next five balls. 5 runs off the over.
Marsh continues….
After 12 overs, India 63/1 (Rohit 37, Kohli 12)
A decent start on debut for Boland. Just a couple of singles off it.
Scott Boland into the attack now….
After 11 overs, India 61/1 (Rohit 36, Kohli 11)
Rohit too is looking confident out in the middle. He flicks one through mid-wicket for a couple and then again clips one through the same region for a boundary. He then shuffles way across and turns one to mid-wicket again for another couple. Another single through mid-wicket makes it 9 runs from the over. Rohit seems to be having a plan of utilising that vacant mid-wicket region.
Mitchell Marsh into the attack now.
After 10 overs, India 52/1 (Rohit 27, Kohli 11)
Kohli getting into the groove now. He flicks one through mid-wicket at first for a couple, then whips one through the same region off the next ball for a four. He then drives one on the up through mid off for the second four off the over. 50 up for India. 10 runs off the over.
After 9 overs, India 42/1 (Rohit 27, Kohli 1)
A decent over from Hazlewood, Rohit is not afraid to go for a pull on the short ball. He pulls one behind square leg for three. Kohli then gets off the mark with a single to fine leg. 4 runs off the over.
Dhawan seems to follow the all or none policy...won't be surprised if he scores a ton in the next game.

After 7 overs, India 38/1 (Rohit 23, Kohli 0)
A nice probing over from Paris. He bowled in the corridor of uncetainty, drew an outside edge off Rohit but it went along the ground to third man for a single. Rohit and Kohli were cautious in that over. Just a single off the over.
15.83 - Kohli's average against Australia in Australia in ODIs in 7 innings, before this match. #AusvsInd

Paris continues……
After 6 overs, India 37/1 (Rohit 23, Kohli 0)
Top over from Hazlewood. He set up Dhawan nicely and earned his wicket and then bowled a sharp bouncer to Kohli first up to which Kohli ducked under at the last moment.
OUT! Hazlewood draws first blood! S Dhawan c Marsh b Hazlewood 9 (22b 1×4 0x6)
Good bowling from Hazlewood, Dhawan had missed a wild swing off a good length ball off the previous delivery, this time he drops it short outside off, Dhawan goes for a pull but gets a top edge to fine leg where the fielder makes no mistake.
Virat Kohli strides out to the middle.
Hazlewood continues….
After 6 overs, India 35/0 (Rohit 21 , Dhawan 9)
A mixed over for Dhawan. Hefinally finds the gap for once. He cracks a full delivery through covers for a boundary and then takes a single wide of mid on. Paris then gets one to bounce off the surface, Rohit does well to play it with soft hands to third man for a single. Paris then brings one back in, Dhawan gets an inside edge and it falls tantalizingly close of the leg stump, a stifled appeal is turned down. Dhawan then looks to cut one hard but misses as it beats his under edge. 6 runs off the over.
Paris continues…..
After 5 overs, India 29/0 (Rohit 20 , Dhawan 4)
After five dot balls, Dhawan slashes one to third man for a single. Dhawan has had a sedate start and struggled to find gaps. He’s been getting many off the middle. Just one run off the over.
Hazlewood continues…..
