Miffed at being denied permission to hold a protest against the BJP-led NDA government, the Youth Congress has now decided to hold a massive rally in the national capital later this month.
Youth Congress president Rajeev Satav had last month sought permission from the Delhi Police to conduct a protest rally at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on 9 September, but the authorities refused citing paucity of space.
According to The Economic Times , the party has now decided to conduct a huge rally in Delhi with lakhs of party supporters from across the country on 25 September.
“The decision of the Delhi Police to deny permission to YC to hold a demonstration on Tuesday in flimsy ground was a clear violation of our democratic rights. YC activists, therefore, staged dharnas outside the residence of many Union ministers to register our protest against the Modi government’s failure to keep promises during its first 100 days. We will continue with our protest to demand that the Delhi Police give us permission to hold a demonstration on September 25,” Satav is quoted as saying by the business daily.
The report further states that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi could also take part in the rally, a move which could indicate that the party vice president’s youth brigade is still has prominence in national party affairs.
