Yeddy unwanted in BJP, Congress unshakeable in Karnataka: CNN-IBN survey

The BJP yielded Karnataka, its only bastion in south India, to the Congress and apart from anti-incumbency a major factor that went against them was their own former chief in the state BS Yeddyurappa. So if they had the chance would they welcome him back?

According to the CNN-IBN and Hindu survey conducted by CSDS, most traditional BJP supporters are not in favour of the return of the former Chief Minister.

And while 37 percent said they don’t mind Yeddyurappa returning to the party if he comes back and asks to be taken back to the party, few of the respondents are in favour of the party making any overtures towards the Lingayat community leader.

The survey, incidentally, could not include any of the KJP supporters among the 822 respondents surveyed.

When it comes to polls, one thing’s for certain. If elections were to be held today the Congress would win the state hands down.

As compared to 2009, the Congress is expected to garner 47 percent of the vote share and around 18-22 Lok Sabha seats. The BJP, which hasn’t recovered from its state of disarray, is not expected to win more than two seats and that JD(S) is also expected to fare in a similar manner.

And as it stands, there’s little discontent over how recently elected  Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah functions. Most of the respondents believe the Congress has done the right thing by making him the Chief Minister and even Congress workers are willing to forgive him for not giving state leaders important ministerial posts.
