Why did Gujarat police officer's wife lock up 17 cops in her garage?

Are we into a-crazy-story-a-day era? Swamis who don’t want female shadows to fall on them. IAS officers who won’t stop for a 90-year-old veteran after their car knocks her down, because they have to go to a flipping play. A man is murdered for eating beef and even that is not proven…the beef, not the murder. The bizarre kicks into the absurd, which telescopes into a modern Ripley’s believe it or not.

And now we have the ridiculous story of an ADG in Karai, Gujarat whose wife locked up 17 cops in her garage and held them hostage sans food and water for the whole night. His defence - they were being punished for displaying indiscipline. Fine, okay, sure, then where did your wife come into the picture?

All 17 were holding officer ranks. And what makes it even more cringeworthy is that this ADG doesn’t even have the right to live in that residence.

As the video goes viral, the top cop in the state DGP PC Thakur, predictably, is holding an inquiry and has promised that the matter will be thoroughly and impartially probed, as opposed to a scratching of the surface through the use of clout. But, the question that should be asked is what profound act of indiscipline prompts such an unprecedented punishment?

Where is it written in the police manual that you so insult people in uniform?

Besides, isn’t it improper to hold 17 men in the same premise without regard for their privacy and basic amenities?

I, for one, have never seen a garage with a toilet.

And what is most surprising in the rising wave of arrogance that we are seeing is that the officer and his wife expected to get away with it.

What will tomorrow bring?
