To bail or not to bail out troubled airline Kingfisher? Most newspapers are of the view that there is absolutely no need for the government to step in and help the cash strapped airline. In a series of editorials today, newspaper editors are of the opinion that bailing the business out is unnecessary and say that if the government wants to infuse money into the aviation sector, it should all be given to national carrier Air India. Business leader Rahul Bajaj has also weighed in on the debate, and has been quoted as saying that if businesses have to die then they must die.
The national media has also carried comments by Mukesh Ambani made at the India Economic summit currently underway in Mumbai. Speaking in a panel session Ambani had said that there was a “speed mismatch” between what the business industry wants and what the government delivers.
The other major story in the media is on Rahul Gandhi’s campaign that will be launched in Uttar Pradesh today. Taking on Mayawati, the Congress scion has criticized her for not doing enough development work in the state.
