Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today said that there was nothing wrong with women wearing bikinis and that he had seen women wearing bikinis since childhood.
Parrikar told CNN-IBN, “There is no indecency about bikinis. I have been seeing bikinis in Goa since my childhood. But it should be limited to swimming.”
This comes a day after the Goa CM had said that while bikinis could not be banned on beaches, but there could be a crack-down on drinking in public in Goa.
CNN-IBN reports that Parrikar also said that he never spoke against bikinis but only said that “if something happens beyond legally permissible limits, agencies will intervene. Government has no role to play.”
Parrikar’s comments came in the backdrop of Goa’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Sudin Dhavalikar creating a national sensation with his comments on banning bikinis.
Dhavalikar during an interaction with reporters last Friday had said, “Young girls wearing short skirts in nightclubs are a threat to the Goan culture. This habit of young girls wearing short dresses everywhere does not fit the Goan culture. What will happen to it if this continues? We should not allow this. It should be stopped.”
He also advised that women should stop drinking too, “because it is not good for their health”.
