Protestors at the Kudamkulam nuclear plant in Tamil Nadu on Thursday blocked all roads to the plant and stopped 700 scientists from reaching work.

This comes just a few days after the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh wrote to  Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa listing out the safety measures taken at the Kundakulam nuclear plant and urged her to put her weight behind it.

The protestors had gathered since Sunday and 106 people are on an indefinate strike demanding that the project be stopped immediately.

This comes a day after Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa threw her weight behind the protestors, paying no attention to the PM’s plea.
