The man who complained about dead NC worker Yusuf’s ‘fixing’ activities has said that he told Omar Abdullah about it in July and not September, as was originally claimed by the CM.

Omar Abdullah seems to be in further trouble. The Hindustan Times has carried a story quoting a senior National Conference member as saying that the Chief Minister knew of the “fixing” activities of his late party colleague Syed Mohammad Yusuf for two months. This is in direct contradiction to Abdullah’s claim that he first heard of the matter on 29 September. Abdullah handed Yusuf over to police but he was found dead in hospital the next day. The government claims that the official cause of death is a heart attack, but Yusuf’s family has alleged that he was a victim of police torture.

Steve Jobs continues his domination over the Indian media today, with all national newspapers leading with news of his death. It’s very rare for an international icon to dominate Indian media headlines in quite this way, and is very telling of the extent of Jobs’ influence across the globe. Significantly, the news, reactions and features are not limited to English language newspapers. The front pages of a number of Hindi, Marathi and Tamil dailies are also dominated by Jobs.

The other big story is also from the US but closer to home. Namely President Obama’s warning to Pakistan where he said his administration was concerned about the Pakistani government’s commitment to American interests because of ties between anti-American militants in Afghanistan and Pakistan’s own intelligence service.
