New bill for lower bureaucracy? Unlikely to impress Team Anna

In what can be seen as another reconciliatory gesture by the UPA government, a law governing lower bureaucrats may be passed in Parliament soon. Minister of Rural development Jairam Ramesh said that the government was likely to introduce a new bill to this effect.

Apart from the inclusion of the Prime Minister and higher judiciary under the ambit of the Lokpal, another key point of difference between the government and Team Anna has been the role the bill should play in governing members of the lower bureaucracy. Ramesh’s statement therefore, that they are ready to pass a bill that will ensure transparency in the workings of the lower judiciary could be seen as another effort to reach out to team Anna.

Whether or not this solution will be acceptable to Team Anna however, is another matter altogether.
