LK Advani, Joshi dropped from BJP's parliamentary board, Cong slams move

The BJP on Tuesday dropped senior leaders L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Atal Bihari Vajpayee from the parliamentary board, the party's highest decision making body.

According to a CNN-IBN report, party president Amit Shah has instituted a Marg Darshak Mandal for the senior leaders in the party.

A release uploaded on the party website said that Narendra Modi, A B Vajpayee, L K Advani, M M Joshi and Rajnath Singh would be part of this mandal.

Reports also suggest that Shivraj Singh Chouhan and JP Nadda were included in the Parliamentary Board.

This comes in the backdrop of reports that the ruling party, after not appointing any veterans in the council of ministers, would now not include them in the Parliamentary Board as well.

Asked what the new group of mentors would do, party spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told NDTV, "They will show the way." He stressed its relevance in party affairs by pointing out that Prime Minister Modi and home minister Rajnath Singh too are part of the mentor group.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, Hussain also reacted to the Congress comment and said, "Congress should not call it an old age home. It does not suit congress to make such comment. It's respect for senior leaders and a high power committee."

Manish Tewari later in an interview with the channel said that move shows that the only two people from the same state will remain in each committee. "This is the first step taken towards sidelining senior leaders."

CNN-IBN in an earlier report had quoted sources as saying "75 years cut-off formula is likely to be applied for the Parliamentary board following which some top leaders need to be dropped. Applying that formula would mean dropping out party veterans Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi."

The BJP's Parliamentary Board includes the party president and ten other members, one of whom will be leader of the party in Parliament. According to CNN-IBN one of the general secretaries are usually appointed as the secretary of the parliamentary board.
