Prominent Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal today praised the stringent provisions of the Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill that include the chief minister, bureaucracy and lower judiciary within its ambit.
“When the Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill has put the chief minister under its purview, why can’t the prime minister come under Lokpal?” Kejriwal asked in a joint press meet he attended with former Union law minister Shanti Bhushan.
The bill was passed on Monday after Chief Minister BC Khanduri entered office couple of months ago.
“The bill has provisions to compulsorily put corrupt officials behind bars within two years and confiscate the property of the corrupt. The Centre should take cue from the Uttarakhand bill,” he said.
The Uttarakhand Lokayukta would have a chairperson and five members and may be extended to 11 if there is a need.
