New Delhi: Ruling Congress party appears to be heading for a setback in Goa assembly polls in which it is trailing in five seats while BJP-MGP combine is leading in nine constituencies as per the latest trends. There seems to be distinct anti-Congress wave as reflected in the election results.
According the poll estimates, BJP-MGP combine is gaining two seats in the 40-member House.
Congress candidate Mauvin Godinho has won the Dabolim seat defeating his nearest rival Premanand Nasnodkar of MGP by a margin of 944 votes, while the party is also leading in Quepem. Its ally NCP is leading in Tivim.
BJP candidate Ramesh Tawadkar was leading in Canocona. BJP sitting MLA Damodar Naik is facing tough fight in Fatorda from independent Vijay Sardessai, who is leading by 996 votes.
Goa Vikas Party has maintained its leading trend in two constituencies in South Goa in the second round.
Congress heavyweight Ravi Naik is facing a tough battle in Ponda.
