Five people have been killed in the polling booth of Tamti in the Chandel district of Manipur, after militants tried to capture the booth.
Early reports coming in said that three polling officials, one woman and one CPRF soldier had been killed in the incident. Another three CPRF personnel have been injured. The militants are suspected to be from the banned militant outfit NSCN (M).
Television reports said that those injured in the incident had been airlifted out of Tamti for treatment, whie a massive manhunt has been launched in the area.

Earlier about 30 percent of the 17.40 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the first three hours in the Manipur legislative assembly elections, officials said.
Long queues of enthusiastic voters were seen at many polling booths across the valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishenpur with people waiting their turn on a sunny morning.
