This morning the newspapers are full of the 2G scam and the Supreme Courts question on as to why the scam was allowed to happen, despite a letter written by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recommending an auction to decide spectrum prices. The letter in question that was addressed to then telecom minister A. Raja, also requested a transparent method to determine prices. The Supreme court has asked the government for an explanation on as to why spectrum allocation happened the way it did, despite the PM’s directive.
Aside from 2G, the other story that gets prominent play is the explosive laden car that was apprehended by police in Ambala. The car contained five kg of the explosive RDX and police believe that it was possibly meant to target Delhi during the festival season. Newspapers say that the investigators believe the operation was carried out by the LeT and a sleeper cell of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a militant outfit which used to be active during the Khalistan movement in Punjab during the 1980s.
Meanwhile the second attack in as many days by the newly emergent Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena has also found mention in the media. Members of the ‘Sena’ attacked a group of Prashant Bhushan’s supporters outside Delhi’s Patiala house demanding that their leaders be released. The leaders in question had been arrested for assaulting Prashant Bhushan in the Supreme Court chambers.
