Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit joined a silent march being held today to ensure justice for the 23-year-old who lost her life after being brutally gang raped and assaulted in a private bus in the country’s capital.
The march, labelled as a Women’s Dignity March, is being organised by the Delhi Commission for Women and will start at Bal Bhavan and end at Raj Ghat in New Delhi, a CNN IBN report said.
Dikshit and ministers of Delhi assembly including Arvinder Singh Lovely, Haroon Yusuf, Kiran Walia and members of Delhi Commission for Women, reached Rajghat to participate in the prayer meeting for Delhi gangrape victim. More than 5,000 people were present at the venue.
The 23-year-old physiotherapy student died on Saturday from internal injuries inflicted with a metal rod during the rape, which took place two weeks ago.
A day after her death, a silent march was staged by Jawaharlal Nehru University students from the college campus to Munirka.
Protestors have already presented a list of demands to the government, including the fast-tracking of rape cases through courts and improved training for the police.
