A day after Wipro chairman Azim Premji slammed the government for not being decisive, the Congress has refuted his claims, saying that it has always taken decisions keeping India’s national interest in mind.
Premji on Monday said that there was a “…complete absence of decision-making among leaders in the government…” and warned that it will be a setback to the country’s growth if prompt corrective action is not taken.
“You must appreciate how serious it is,” Premji said.
In response, Manish Tiwari, Congress spokesperson said “there is absolutely no absence of decision making in the government.”
“The government has been taking decisions in national interest, whether it is in the international arena or domestic affairs,” Tiwari told CNN-IBN.
On being asked what the “biggest concern for the country today” was, the chairman of Wipro, the country’s third largest software service exporter had said, “I think the biggest concerns are governance issues….”
Referring to this concern, Tiwari, urged Premji to approach the government with his areas of concern and assured him of credible action.
“If at all Mr. Azim Premji does have a specific area of concern, he can always flag it to the attention of the government,” Tiwari said, adding, “and I’m sure the government would pay the closest attention to it.”
Earlier this month, a group of prominent personalities — including Deepak Parekh of HDFC, Jamshyd Godrej of Godrej group, Azim Premji of Wipro, Keshub Mahindra of M&M, Anu Aga of Thermax, former RBI Governor Bimal Jalan, and former judges BN Srikrishna and Sam Variava — had written an open letter to the nation’s leaders, seeking urgent action on judicial, electoral, police and land reforms to bring down the incidence of corruption and poor governance in the country.
