Congress attacks UP govt for taking no action in religious conversion cases

Lucknow: Congress today alleged that Uttar Pradesh government was keeping away from initiating a strict action in the cases of religious conversions in the state and staged a walkout from the Assembly over the issue. The matter was raised during the Question Hour by Congress member Anugrah Narain Singh, who sought to know from the government how many incidents of religious conversions were reported in the state in the last five months of last year. Singh said a member of a particular organisation had issued a statement that all Muslims would be converted to Hindu religion by 2020. He said that such statements were an attack on Constitution. He said that it was “unfortunate” that such incidents were being reported and “irresponsible” statements were being made by some persons. Khan stressed on creating awareness about “forces that are resorting to such practices for votes,” Khan said. Meanwhile, Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader Pradeep Mathur alleged that a certain political party was creating tension in the society. The party members later walked out of the Assembly alleging that the state government was not taking strict action in the incidents of religious conversion reported from Bareilly and Meerut. PTI
