A complaint has been filed against UP Chief Minister Mayawati and her close aide Naseemuddin Siddiqui in the state Lokayukta. The complainant, Vinay Kumar, has alleged that Mayawati and Siddiqui were involved in the liquor trade, and took kickbacks that resulted in a Rs. 2.5 crore loss to the exchequer.
In Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister remains outside the ambit of the state lokayukta. Therefore the lokayukta will have to delete the Chief Minister’s name when making any inquiries into the case. The co-accused in the complaint, Siddiqui, is widely known as Mayawati’s right hand man, and is a very important person in Uttar Pradesh. He holds 18 ministerial portfolios including that of education and excise. This is also the third case filed against him in the state lokayukta.
