BMC election results: Here's how the newspapers reported BJP, Devendra Fadnavis' big win

Though Shiv Sena managed to win 84 seats in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation election, the real winner is the BJP. In the Maharashtra civic polls, BJP emerged as the largest party winning eight of the 10 municipal corporations. Though the party fell short of getting a majority (114) in the BMC, it increased its vote tally from 31 in the previous election to 82. The final outcome of this fractured mandate, however, will now depend on post-poll alliances.

BJP emerged the number one party in Ulhasnagar, Nashik, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Solapur, Akola, Amravati and Nagpur. The saffron party also made inroads into the traditional Congress bastions of Latur and Solapur.

Here’s a look at how some of the daily newspapers reported BJP’s win.

_The Indian Expres_s said while the BJP made huge gains, the Congress and NCP’s performance were beyond dismal.

The Times of India focused on how Fadnavis’ strategy worked for the BJP and the road ahead for Shiv Sena.

The Hindustan Times too said that the BMC polls results were not just a big win for the BJP, but also for Fadnavis.

The DNA focused on the future of the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance.

Mumbai Mirror too concentrated on the likelihood of a post-poll alliance.

Here’s how Mid-Day reported the results of the BMC polls.
