Not many people know about an obscure little village in Allahabad called Dauna. Back in 1994, Dauna featured regularly in the news following a strange incident that occurred in January that year. The landowners of the backward Kurmi caste stripped naked a woman and paraded her around the village.

It was strange because caste hostilities were not as common in UP as they were in Bihar. Find out more about the incident and its lasting impact on the political discourse of the populous state.
