Nine days into his fast and amid spiraling concerns for his health, Anna Hazare made another appearance on stage at the Ramlila Maidan and addressed the crowds gathered there. He reiterated the fact the he was fit although he had lost so much weight.
Despite his weakening health Anna remained defiant, insisting that he would fight “until his dying breath” for the common people who got no relief from a corrupt system. He also went on to insist that the government should agree to establishing Lokayukta’s in every state, saying that if this was not done, there was no way corruption in the government would end.
“Yesterday, the government agreed to our demands but kept a decision pending on three issues,” “If the demands are not met, I have decided that I will fight till my last breath,” he said.
Hazare accused the government of not wanting to seriously end corruption, saying “If corruption is removed, how is the government supposed to earn its food?” Hazare went on to say that corruption was destroying the country, adding that the system was so corrupt that ordinary citizens did not get justice. “I am ready to give up my life for the poor, I cannot tolerate their sorrow”.
Speaking further on the Jan Lokpal, Anna said the bill would investigate all kinds of corruption, and also punish the guilty.
Hazare ended with a call to all citizens to unite to see the Jan Lokpal through. “It does not matter if we are Hindu or Muslim. We are all the same in Gods eyes”, he said.
