Are India's shooters the best bet for Olympic gold?

With Rajyavardhan Rathore and Abhinav Bindra winning silver and gold at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008, the Indian shooting contingent in London will participate with a lot of pressure to emulate successes of the past.

But for those who think that we have the best shooting team at the Olympics, reality is that the Games will be very tightly contested. There are no guarantees. In shooting, there never are.

“Our shooters are shooting extremely well, but so are the other teams. When they practice they see the scoreboard. They know that the others are also doing well and it’s definitely going to be a very tough competition,” says India shooting coach Sunny Thomas.

Ronjan Sodhi, India’s double trap shooter sounded very confident on his chances: “It gives me confidence that I have beaten these opponents in other competitions and can also beat them here.”

India also boasts of defending champion Abhinav Bindra and shooter Gagan Narang in the 10m air rifle.
