Fearless college student Pradnya Mandhare did something that one doesn’t hear about everyday. When attacked by a drunk man in Mumbai’s Kandivali station, she singlehandedly fought him off and then dragged him by his hair to the nearest police station.
A third-year Bachelor of Mass Media student at Sathaye College in Vile Parle, Mandhare was travelling from her college to her home in Borivali, she decided to get off at the Kandivali station when it was announced that her train wouldn’t stop at its regular platform.
And as she was waiting for another train at the Kandivali station, a drunk man approached her and grabbed her. Mid-Day quotes her as saying _, “When I was waiting at the platform for another train, this visibly drunk person came to me and touched me inappropriately. When I tried to avoid him, he grabbed me. I was shocked for a couple of seconds, but then I started hitting him with my bag.”_
According to the report, while the man tried to hit her, she could overpower him because he was drunk.
Mandhare also said that while the station was crowded, people just chose to stand and watch her instead of coming to her rescue. She says since the man was too filthy to touch, she grabbed him by his hair and dragged him to the nearest Government Railway Police (GRP) chowkie.
Speaking about such incidents, Mandhare is of the opinion that women should not keep quiet but stand up for themselves in such situations.
“Women should raise their voice and teach such people a lesson. Women are not objects for anyone to touch at will,” Mandhare told Mid-Day.
