Thane: NCP State Unit Working President Jitendra Awhad has decided to undertake an indefinite fast over the long pending cluster development issue of Mumbra township in Thane.
Addressing a news conference in Thane on Monday evening, Awhad who is also the party MLA representing the Mumbra-Kalwa assembly segment, said this situation has risen as Maharashtra government has failed to take a decision on the demand for cluster development of Mumbra.
He said that a march would be taken out on 4 October, to the Mantralaya, where the fast would be undertaken.
He urged Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan to visit the site of Banu complex, which came down crashing on Saturday in Mumbra.
Awhad said there were several dilapilated buildings in Mumbra and it needs a separate repairs board. He also reminded that when there were many building collapse incidents and former CM Ashok Chavan had appointed the Benjamin and Dange committee to look into them but their recommendations are yet to be implemented.
“The government should take matters seriously and act fast and go in for cluster development demand,” he said.
Shiv Sena MLA Eknath Shinde had given an ultimatum to the state government to speed up the process of going in for cluster development or else face serious agitation.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar who was in Thane after the April 4 Shil Daighar house crash which claimed as many as 74 lives, had also advocated the need for cluster development in the region.
