Jigna Vora added fuel to fire: police on J Dey murder case

Mumbai: The police today told a court here that journalist Vora, an accused in J Dey murder case, had fuelled the dispute between gangster Chota Rajan and the slain journalist, which likely led to the killing.

The Crime Branch, which is investigating the Dey murder case, has opposed Vora’s bail application before the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court.

Vora was aware of the issues between Rajan and Dey, a senior journalist with city-based tabloid who covered crime, and therefore she added fuel to the fire. “She also passed negative information about Dey (to Rajan) and hence she is also a part of the conspiracy,” argued the prosecution lawyer.

Vora, the then deputy chief of bureau of a city-based English newspaper, was arrested on November 25. She is accused of passing information such as the registration number Dey’s motorcycle and his address to Rajan.

In her bail application, she said she is innocent and had spoken to Rajan only for an interview, which was published in her newspaper.

According to police, Rajan, who was irked by two articles written by Dey for portraying him in bad light, ordered the killing. Dey was shot dead in suburban Powai on 11th June, 2011 by assailants; as per the charge sheet, Vohra had professional rivalry with Dey.
