Animal rights activists observed 9 July as Poison Biscuit Day to mark the anniversary of the mass poisoning of stray dogs in Navi Mumbai eight years ago. Nearly 30 dogs had been fed poisoned biscuits on that day. As one participant recalled, “The dogs were trying hard to survive but they gave up and died in front of our eyes. This incident has left an indelible imprint on my mind and I have to do something for them.”

While the culprits are yet to be caught, animal lovers gathered to spread awareness about animal cruelty in the country and express their outrage about the nominal fine of Rs 50.
