How many iPhone 6 smartphones does it take to get your girlfriend to say yes to a marriage proposal? The answer it seems, is not 99, at least based on how a proposal turned out for one Chinese programmer.
According to a report on Kotaku , a Chinese programmer inGuangzhou, got 99 iPhone 6 devices together in the shape of a heart in order to propose to his girlfriend, ahead of Singles Day, a Chinese holiday which is celebrated on 11 November and encourages single people to get hitched. The photos of the boy standing next to the heart made of iPhones went viral on China’s Twitter equivalent Weibo.
Sadly, the boy didn’t get a yes from the girl.
And how much did he spend on the iPhones? According to this report on The NanFang , it cost him 500,000 (about $82,000) to pull off this iPhone-based proposal. That’s approximately two years’ worth of salary. What a way to spend your savings.
Of course as Weibo users noted, the guy should not have trouble selling the iPhones given that China has a fairly high demand for them. Except that he’s unlikely to get all his money back.
This incident can probably serve as a good reminder to all the men who want to get hitched: Don’t assume that she’s going to say yes, just keep it simple and don’t spend all your salary on a proposal. That way if she says no, at least you won’t be broke.
