The ALS ice bucket challenge has gone viral online. From tech tycoons like Mark Zuckerberg to Tim Cook to Bill Gates to celebrities like talk show queen Oprah Winfrey and Lady Gaga, everyone is taking the challenge and posting videos online.

The challenge is to raise awareness about Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) which is neuro-degenerative and is also known as motor neurone disease (MND), or Lou Gehrig’s disease in the US.

The Ice-bucket challenge a simple request. Once challenged by someone, a user has to post a video of themselves dumping a bucket of ice cold water over their heads. Once soaked with cold water, they extend the challenge to others and ask them to either do the same or make a donation to an organisation dedicated to fighting ALS.  The ice bucket challenge went viral on social media after US baseball player and ALS patient, Pete Frates, floated the idea of the challenge.

The challenge has helped raise close to $23 million, according to the ALS website.

The ALS Association said the challenge has “literally soaked” the nation with everyone from 86-year-old widow of Senator Robert Kennedy, Ethel Kennedy to singer Justin Timberlake pouring a bucket of ice water over their heads and challenging others to do the same.

We take a look at the top ice-bucket challenge videos:

Oprah Winfrey: When there’s a good cause Oprah can’t be far behind. She nicely joined in the Ice-bucket challenge and in turn challenged Steven Spielberg, Helen Mirren and Dayal Manish." In the end though, once the icy water hits her head, you’d be best advised to turn down the volume. That lady can shriek!

Lady Gaga: Ok, Lady Gaga is the Queen of all things weird but even by her standards, her ice-bucket video is really creepy. The real question though, why is she wearing that outfit?

Mark Zuckerberg: The Facebook CEO’s video is a fun watch.  The expression on his face after he pours cold water on himself is priceless. Keeping it simple is fun. Lady Gaga, are you listening?

Satya Nadella: The Microsoft CEO had a bunch of his employees pour the ice water on his head. How many company CEOs are up for that?

Elon Musk: Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla Motors, got his boys to empty icy buckets of water on his head. It’s a really fun video to watch.

Bill Gates: Bill Gates who was challenged by Zuckerberg easily has the best video. You can see him watching Mark Zuckerberg’s video on a computer, then he builds his own little mechanism with the bucket hanging in the air and finally pulls the string to let the icy water fall on his head. It’s one of our favourites.

Jeff Bezos: He did a pretty cool standup comedy act before he took the ice bucket challenge. He also thought about who to challenge next. At first he thought Edward Snowden, then dismissed it since ‘well the bucket would leak.’ He also thought of passing the challenge to Queen and the Pope but had to give up on that since they both wear hats. Oh and he also wanted to nominate Kim Jong-un. Watch his full video below to find out he nominated.

Justin Bieber: Justin Bieber’s ice-bucket challenge is about as annoying as it can get mostly since you can hear tweens laughing in the background. Bieber incidentally nominated Barack Obama as well.

Tim Cook: Tim Cook’s ice-bucket challenge is rather cute as he got covered with ice-water by rapper-singer Michael Franti on stage at Apple’s California campus. Tim Cook was nominated by Apple’s marketing chief Phil Schiller. Watch the video below:

Cristiano Ronaldo: Finally saving the best for the last. Check out how Ronaldo took the ice-bucket challenge. Ladies, this one is for you.
