The United States has deported 54 men from the Indian state of Haryana for allegedly entering the country through an illegal migration pathway known as the “ Donkey Route.” The deportees arrived at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday and were subsequently handed over to their families.
The deported individuals, mostly aged between 25 and 40, come from various districts in Haryana, with the largest contingents from Karnal, Kaithal, Ambala, and Yamuna Nagar.
The mass deportation has triggered an investigation by local police into the “Donkey Route,” which refers to the dangerous and unofficial methods used by migrants to enter countries like the US without legal documentation.
Authorities confirmed that all 54 men had used this illegal route to enter the country.
Karnal Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sandeep Kumar stated that the police have taken custody of the men and returned them to their relatives.
As of now, police have not received any formal complaints against the agents or travel facilitators who arranged the illegal passages. However, authorities have advised the public against attempting to travel abroad illegally, citing the legal and personal problems such methods ultimately cause.
The deportations are part of a broader crackdown on illegal immigration by the US government. Police have initiated an investigation to determine if any of the deported individuals have a prior criminal record.

In a related development, the Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana arrested a close associate of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi shortly after he was deported from the United States. The accused, identified as Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakha, had been operating from the US since 2022 and was allegedly involved in numerous cases of extortion and firing incidents in Haryana and Punjab.
Lakha was successfully deported through continuous coordination with national and international agencies after a Look Out Circular (LOC) and Red Corner Notice (RCN) were issued against him.
