Russian authorities claimed their air defence systems successfully intercepted a massive wave of Ukrainian drones overnight, reporting the destruction of 193 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) across the country.
The most significant strikes were reported near the capital, Moscow, where 34 drones were allegedly shot down, and over the Bryansk region, where 47 were intercepted.
The attacks in Bryansk, which borders Ukraine, resulted in civilian deaths, with a drone reportedly striking a minibus, killing one person and injuring five others.
In Moscow, while Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed the downing of 34 drones within a six-hour period, he reported no ground damage. However, the security alert necessitated the temporary shutdown of two major Moscow airports, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky, as a precautionary measure.
Beyond these areas, the Defence Ministry added that drones were also destroyed over 11 other regions, primarily in the country’s west and south. Russia’s report of the scale of the attacks could not be independently verified, and Ukraine typically states that its drone operations target military-related infrastructure.
