International Yoga Day was a success with PM Modi leading a huge crowd at Rajpath in New Delhi from the front and a new Guinness World Records for yoga being set with 35,985 participants performing asanas at one venue. From students, armed forces to Bollywood celebrities, everyone came out in hordes to mark the occasion by performing yoga asansas together. But the highlight of the live yoga performances was seeing the various ministers stretching it out. We have seen these very politicians in their kurtas and/or mufflers shouting aggressively or making absurd statements in the Parliament and press conferences. To see them lying in their track suits, seemingly peacefully, on their yoga mats as they contorted their bodies for various asanas was unusual to say the least. Add to that the hilarious gaffes some of our politicians tend to make regularly, the awkward positions certain yoga asanas can result in, and we have a list of photographs to remember. Here are some of the funniest photographs of our ministers performing yoga and what their asanas indicated. Suresh Prabhu Coming a close second in Yoga Day gaffes is Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu who supposedly fell asleep during a yoga event and had to be woken up. Images of him stirring awake were published in a regional newspaper and have been making the rounds on Twitter as well. Looks like he found the asanas to be so very peaceful indeed. He is seen looking around cluelessly, not knowing which side to face and which asana to do. I fact he confuses the basic breathing exercises as well, not to mention the great effort he has to put in to sit and stand. We wonder who they are pointing at with such stern expressions. However, his asanas were not as much in sync with that of Delhi. Here, he looks more like a part of a dance performance than a yoga performance. Well, they got their wish as Parrikar performed yoga in seemingly silent meditation. He showed his enthusiasm for yoga by performing a very difficult asana. Unlike many other ministers who preferred to perform conventional meditation, Prasad went ahead and plopped himself in a reptilian position with full concentration. Her asana here seems fitting considering the supposed gag order imposed on her by the BJP. Here we see her performing a strenuous asana, which is noteworthy considering she is over 70 years old, proving that yoga keeps you healthy indeed.
