She Shakti Suraksha Survey 2025: Majority of women say don’t feel safe travelling alone by public transport at night

The majority of Indian women don’t feel safe in public transport during night, according to the CNN-News18’s She Shakti Suraksha Survey 2025.

While 70 per cent women felt safe in public transport during the day, only 36 per cent felt so during the night, according to the survey.

However, overall, 49 per cent women found public transport safer than ride-hailing apps and only 13 per cent felt that ride-hailing apps are safer than public transport.

The survey covered 8,000 women in 20 Indian cities. The survey was conducted in 10 Indian languages.

The survey found that 44 per cent women believe that public transportation is women-friendly and 27 per cent women felt that public transportation is unsafe for women.

In addition to women’s perception of public transport, the survey also looked at overall women safety, women’s workplace safety, safety at educational institutions, and the safest cities for women. The survey found that 87 per cent women are confident in workplace safety measures, 87 per cent women feel safe in their educational institutions, and women rated Ahmedabad, Indore, and Mumbai as the safest cities.
