  • 22 per cent find them inadequate in their public spaces.

  • 22 per cent remain neutral.

Efforts to improve safety:

  • 19 per cent feel safety efforts are lacking.

  • 14 per cent hold neutral views.

  • 15 per cent feel unsafe while taking a walk at night.

  • 31 per cent remain neutral.

Survey scope & goal

The survey, covering 8,000 women across 20 Indian cities, used random sampling and Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) in 10 languages to ensure diverse representation.

By analysing factors like age, education, marital status, and income, the study highlights how safety concerns differ across social and economic backgrounds. The goal is to drive policy improvements for a safer, more inclusive India where women can move freely without fear.
