Ryan International School murder case: Punjab and Haryana High Court stays trustees' arrest until 7 October

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Thursday stayed the arrest of Gurugram’s Ryan International School trustees Augustine Pinto, and his wife Grace and son Ryan until a further hearing on 7 October, media reports said.

Earlier on Monday, the court had refused to grant anticipatory bail plea to the Pintos making an arrest possible at any time. The high court had said that they cannot hear the particular case because the matter has been transferred to the CBI and it needs to be checked. The Haryana Police was initially investigating the case, before the state government transferred it to the CBI. However, on 20 September, the high court had  refused to stay the arrest  of the Pinto family while taking up their application for anticipatory bail. A week later, the Pintos were asked to submit their passports by the Bombay High Court, spelling further trouble for the family. Grace Pinto, the managing director of the Ryan International Group of Institutions and trustee of St. Xavier’s Schools, has quite a reputation in political circles of Mumbai and Delhi. Firstpost  had reported how the 62-year-old maintains  close equations  with several parties and leaders on both sides of the political divide, and it appears that these connections may have helped her survive serious money laundering allegations as well.
