Rajasthan: Border Security Force (BSF) Unit posted in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer caught an alleged Bangladeshi national trying to illegally cross India-Pakistan international border on Thursday.
The accused identified as Sarovar Hussain, 28, a citizen of Bangladesh, was nabbed from Posina village near Myajlar along the border, Jhinjhinyali Police Station SHO Hanwant Singh said.
Police sources said the man was caught when he was trying to cross the border illegally. The SHO said the man was handed over to local police who will then send him to the security agencies for further interrogation on Friday.
As per the officials, trespassers like Hussain go through heavy questioning and a background check in order to ascertain whether they are a threat to the country or they just inadvertently crossed the border.
As per a report published by the Hindu earlier in this year, the South Bengal Frontier of the BSF has handed over 187 Bangladeshi nationals to the Border Guards Bangladesh between January 2021 and March 2022. Of them, 135 people had crossed the border in 2021 and 52 between January and March 2022. Sixty-three of those apprehended were women, 27 children and the remaining men.
The data further suggests the number of people arrested for crossing the border illegally is shocking. In 2021, the South Bengal Frontier of the BSF arrested 2036 Bangladeshi nationals for illegally crossing the borders. The figure of people from Bangladesh arrested in 2020 was 3060.
