Punjab shame: Two cops suspended for thrashing woman say she attacked first

Two Punjab policemen in Taran Taran have been suspended for slapping and beating up a woman in full public view. The police beat up the young woman and her father after she went to them with a complaint of sexual harassment.

The entire incident was caught on camera by a bystander who passed it on to the media.

Speaking to CNN-IBN, the woman in question said that her father and brother had confronted a group of truckers who had been sexually harassing her. A group of policemen nearby had come over and asked what was happening, and took the side of the truckers.

Amidst thrashing her with lathis, the woman alleges that the cops told her, “Lets take you to the police station and show you what molestation is all about”.

The SP at Taran Taran is reportedly investigating the incident, and are investigating the part of two more police officers. However the cops at the scene are alleging that they were defending themselves after being attacked by the woman, her father, and brother.

The girl says she wants a case registered against all 17 policemen who were at the scene.
