Punjab DGP reviews law and order in Amritsar, Jalandhar

Punjab DGP reviews law and order in Amritsar, Jalandhar

Chandigarh: Punjab DGP VK Bhawra on Saturday reviewed law and order situation in Amritsar and Jalandhar commissionerates, border range, and emphasized that action against terrorism, gangsters and drugs should be assigned highest priority and intensified. The first meeting was held at Police Lines Amritsar, which was attended by officers including Amritsar Commissioner of Police Arun Pal Singh and Inspector General of Police Border Range Mohinish Chawla, an official spokesman said. The second meeting was held in Jalandhar in the presence of Special Director General of Police Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota, Jalandhar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Toor, Jalandhar Range Deputy Inspector General S Boopathi and senior superintendent of police of Jalandhar Range. The DGP was accompanied by Additional DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla and IGP (Intelligence) Jatinder Singh Aulakh, the spokesman said. During the meetings, Bhawra asked officers to remain extra alert in view of forthcoming ‘Ghallughara week’ (Operation Bluestar anniversary in first week of June) to avert any untoward incident. The operation Bluestar was carried out in 1984 to flush out heavily-armed terrorists holed up in the Golden Temple. While directing the police officers to maintain public order, he also ordered them to take stern action against those trying to disturb peace and communal harmony in the state. After the briefing with senior officers, the DGP expressed satisfaction that Punjab Police has been doing great job on counter terrorism front, and various modules have already been busted in the state with the arrest of people involved in this crime. He also gave clear instructions to officers not to let anyone disturb peace and communal harmony in the state. If any person is found indulging in any violent activity, he should be dealt with firmly as per law of the land.
