Pune Porsche accident: Teen driver seen in CCTV footage at a bar with friends.

The 17-year-old boy, who rammed over a bike with his unregistered Porsche Taycan, killing two 24-year-old software engineers, confessed before the Pune Police that he was drunk while driving and therefore, he cannot remember what had happened on May 19 when the crash took place.

A report by India Today quoted sources as saying that the juvenile, who is now in an observation home, told the cops that he was heavily drunk while driving when the accident took place in Kalyani Nagar area of Pune.

‘Can’t recollect’

The teen informed the Pune Crime Branch team that he was unable to recollect all the incidents completely from the day of the accident.

The boy, son of influential real estate developer Vishal Agarwal, was earlier granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board (JBB) within 15 hours of the accident on conditions widely criticised and termed “lenient”. He was asked to write a 300-word essay, do 15 days of work with traffic police and get psychiatric treatment and counselling for his drinking habit.

The decision by the JJB provoked public outrage, with many, including the Pune Police calling for the juvenile to be tried as an adult for the heinous crime.

The JJB later modified its order and sent him to an observation home.

Teen’s blood sample swapped

After being detained by the cops, the teen was taken to Pune’s Sassoon General Hospital for a medical check-up. There, the doctors threw his blood sample in a bin and had swapped with his mother’s sample before sending it to the forensic lab for alcohol test. This was allegedly done at the direction of the minor accused’s father.

Pune teen’s absconding mother arrested

On Sunday (June 2), the boy’s mother, Shivani Agarwal, was arrested by the police. She had fled Pune when the case started getting bigger and two doctors – Dr Shrihari Halnor and Dr Ajay Taware – were arrested.

She was taken into custody a few days after it was found that the teenager’s blood sample for an alcohol test at the Sassoon hospital had been substituted with a woman’s.

Mrs Agarwal was arrested for tampering with evidence and being present at the hospital when blood tests were obtained.

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar said Mrs Agarwal feigned ignorance on why the doctors at Sassoon Hospital asked her to give her blood as a sample instead of her son’s.

“We have recorded the statement of the woman (49). She told us that the doctors of the hospital had told her to give her blood as sample instead of her son’s. She feigned ignorance on why the doctors told her so," a report by Times of India quoted Amitesh Kumar as saying.
