The Pune Police on Friday arrested the accused who allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman inside a stationary bus at Swargate bus station, news agency PTI reported.
Pune Police arrested the accused, Dattatray Gade, around midnight from Shirur tehsil.
Gade allegedly raped the woman early Tuesday morning inside an ST bus. He was caught after visiting someone’s house for a meal, and the person immediately informed the police.
Gade targeted the woman while she was waiting for a bus to Phaltan in Satara district around 5:45 am on Tuesday. He misled her by saying the bus was at another platform and then committed the crime.
Gade is a history-sheeter and is named in half a dozen cases of theft, robbery, and chain-snatching in Pune and Ahilyanagar districts. He has been out on bail since 2019 in one of the offences.
13 teams were deployed
Thirteen police teams were deployed at various locations across the state to arrest the accused.
The police also used sniffer dogs and drones as part of a search operation in the sugarcane fields of Shirur tehsil in Pune district on Thursday.
