Preparations are in full swing at the Red Fort, New Delhi, as India marks the 79th Independence Day . On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the national flag and deliver his 12th consecutive address to the nation. The Indian premier’s address to the country would come from the ramparts of the iconic monument.
This year’s Independence Day celebration would carry the theme ‘Naya Bharat’ reflecting the government’s vision to achieve 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047. Upon his arrival at the Red Fort, the prime minister will be received by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, MoS Sanjay Seth and Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
The Defence Secretary would then introduce Lieutenant General Bhavish Kumar, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Delhi area, to the Prime Minister. The success of India’s Operation Sindoor is expected to be celebrated during the Friday celebration.
A woman officer to assist PM Modi in the flag hoisting ceremony
According to the ANI, Flying Officer Rashika Sharma will assist the prime minister in hoisting the flag, after which flower petals will be showered from two Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force - one carrying the national flag and the other one carrying the flag of Operation Sindoor .
The two aircraft will be piloted by Wing Commander Vinay Poonia and Wing Commander Aditya Jaiswal. After the showering of flower petals, the prime minister will address the nation. Around 5,000 special guests from different walks of life have been invited to the celebration at the Red Fort this year.
Among these guests will be the Indian contingent of the Special Olympics 2025, the winners of international sports events and the Gold Medalist of Khelo India Para Games. Meanwhile, on August 11, the Ministry of Culture announced the 4th edition of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign under the aegis of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The initiative would inspire citizens across the nation to bring the Indian National Flag, the Tiranga, into their homes and hearts.
