Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of the Noida International Airport in Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, marking a major step in India’s aviation expansion. The Prime Minister also undertook a walkthrough of the airport’s terminal building on the occasion, where he was presented with a sacred artefact of Lord Buddha.
The launch of the airport is being seen as a significant milestone in India’s efforts to emerge as a global aviation hub. Envisioned as a key international gateway for the National Capital Region (NCR), the project is expected to boost airport infrastructure while enhancing both regional and global connectivity.
The Noida International Airport has been developed as the second international gateway for the Delhi-NCR region, complementing the existing Indira Gandhi International Airport in the national capital.
Together, the two airports are expected to function as an integrated aviation network, helping ease congestion, expand passenger capacity, and strengthen Delhi-NCR’s position among leading global aviation hubs.
The airport’s cargo terminal is designed to handle over 2.5 lakh metric tonnes annually, with the capacity scalable up to 18 lakh metric tonnes in the future.
