Flights cancelled

A total of 430 flights stand cancelled on Thursday, which constitutes 3 per cent of the country’s total aviation. As per Flightradar24, the airspace over Pakistan and the western part of India, from Kashmir to Gujarat, was clear of civilian flights as airlines avoided the sensitive region.

Most flights are avoiding the Pakistani airspace, with many of them being rerouted over Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

On the day of the operation, Indian carriers like Air India, IndiGo and SpiceJet, along with a few foreign airlines, announced announced cancellation of their flight services. While Air India said it has cancelled 140 flights, IndiGo has cancelled 165 flights to and from various domestic locations.

India on high alert

India has been put on high alert as authorities in New Delhi anticipate retaliation from Pakistan following Operation Sindoor. A day after the mission conducted by the Indian force, New Delhi shored up its defences across the land, air and sea domains.

According to TOI, the multi-layered air defence network is fully activated on several frontlines. The report noted that warships are deployed in the Arabian Sea, and the infantry units in the region are fully stocked and prepared to deal with any form of contingency. In terms of air, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is conducting air patrols with fighter jets and is in close contact with the tri-Service Strategic Forces Command, which handles the country’s nuclear arsenal.
