• India needed a favour from Australia to beat Sri Lanka to make it to the tri-series best of three finals, but as it happens, the Lankans have beaten Australia by nine runs and in the process have also knocked India out of the tournament.
• The government has firmly denied that Defence Minister AK Antony’s office was “bugged”, but clarified that routine security sweeps were done at his office and nothing was found during such checks. Anubha Bhosle of CNN-IBN has a more detailed report in our bulletin.
• Journalists in Bangalore staged a sit-in-protest on Friday after being attacked by lawyers outside a city court, and sought justice from the Karnataka Government over the incident. The lawyers were reportedly upset with the media after it questioned a road blockade by protesting lawyers in January in Mysore city.
• Criminal charges against Yahoo India have been dropped from a list of 22 companies which includes Google and Facebook, who have been taken to court by journalist Vinay Rai over obscene content. The Delhi high court accepted Yahoo’s petition of being wrongly dragged into the case, without any documentary evidence.
• Kingfisher passengers who were to board a Dubai-New Delhi flight had a bad experience last night as they waited for their supposedly delayed flight, which was eventually cancelled. The airline then accommodated the passengers in a hotel and informed them that they could board the same flight on Friday night, but many of them cancelled tickets and opted for other airlines.
• In sport, apart from India’s ouster from the Tri-series Down Under, there’s more cricket news as Dav Whatmore is set to become Pakistan’s coach. He led Sri Lanka to World Cup glory in 1996.
