News Wrap: Army Chief blames rogue elements over leaked letter

- In today’s bulletin, we have news on the Army Chief Gen. VK Singh’s latest statement over the leak of his letter to the Prime Minister.

On the same lines, we have a CNN-IBN report on how BEML head VRS Natarajan insists that Tatra trucks are not of sub-standard quality, contrary to VK Singh’s comments.

- A special CBI court acquitted Punjab minister Bibi Jagir Kaur of charges of murdering her daughter but found her guilty of criminal conspiracy and forced abortion, sentencing her to five years rigorous imprisonment. - In world news, a detailed account of bin Laden’s life on the run has been given by his 30-year-old wife Amal Ahmad Abdul Fateh, and is contained in a police report dated 19 January. She says that he lived in five different safe house while on the run.

- We have a report on POSCO as the National Green Tribunal cancelled an environmental clearance granted to it, for a dream 12-million ton steel project in Orissa. The suspension means that Posco will have to stand in line for clearance all over again. We have quotes from Environment minister Jayanthi Natarajan who says that the decision will not be a setback to the government’s green policies.

- In sport, Leander Paes and Radek Stepanek caused a major upset beating formidable top seeds Mike and Bob Bryan 6-4, 6-4, but Bhupathi and Bopanna went down 2-6, 4-6 against second seeded Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Canada’s Daniel Nestor.
